Recipe for mutton Rassa

Ingredients:

  • 500 gm Mutton
  • 4 medium sized Onions
  • 5 medium sized Tomatoes
  • 5 Garlic cloves
  • 1 inch piece of Ginger
  • 4-5 Green chillies
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups Water
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and add cumin seeds.
  2. Once the cumin seeds start to crackle, add finely chopped onions, ginger, and garlic.
  3. Sauté the onions until they are golden brown.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes, green chillies, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander seeds and garam masala powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  5. Add the mutton pieces and salt to the pot. Cook until the mutton is browned on all sides.
  6. Add 4 cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat, cover the pot and let it simmer for 1-2 hours or until the mutton is tender.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
