Story of holika dahan

Prahlad was a young boy who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, but his father, Hiranyakashipu, was an evil king who believed himself to be invincible and demanded that everyone worship him instead of the gods. Prahlad refused to do so, and his father became enraged.

Hiranyakashipu’s sister, Holika, had a boon that made her immune to fire. She suggested that they burn Prahlad alive, but in doing so, she would need to hold him in her lap. Holika planned to use her immunity to protect herself and let Prahlad burn. The day arrived, and they set a bonfire, with Holika holding Prahlad in her lap. But, as the fire burned, a strong gust of wind blew, and the shawl that Holika was wearing flew off and covered Prahlad, saving him from the fire. Holika, however, burnt to death.
