On February 22, 2025, a section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana, collapsed, trapping eight workers approximately 14 kilometers inside the tunnel. The incident occurred during ongoing construction work, with water seepage and geological disturbances contributing to the collapse.
The trapped workers have been identified as Manoj Kumar (Project Engineer) and Srinivas (Field Engineer) from Uttar Pradesh; Sunny Singh (Worker) from Jammu & Kashmir; Gurpreet Singh (Worker) from Punjab; and Sandeep Sahu, Jataks, Santosh Sahu, and Anuj Sahu (Workers) from Jharkhand.
The rescue operation has mobilized over 500 personnel, including teams from the Army, Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL). Specialized equipment such as plasma cutters and Brocho cutting machines have been deployed to navigate the challenging conditions within the tunnel.

The operation faces significant challenges, including continuous water seepage, slush formation, and blocked pathways due to debris and metal components from the tunnel boring machine (TBM). Efforts are ongoing to dewater the tunnel and remove silt, with teams working tirelessly to reach the trapped workers.
In a recent development, Janyutech has dispatched the Varaha SCE Rhino, a heavy-duty remotely operated vehicle (ROV), along with a specialized team to assist in the rescue efforts. The operation is currently live and ongoing, with the team striving to achieve the maximum possible outcome under these challenging circumstances.
The SLBC tunnel collapse has been described as one of India’s most complex and challenging rescue operations. Continuous water inflow and geological uncertainties have hindered progress, prompting the involvement of national and international experts.
As the rescue operation continues, the thoughts and prayers of the nation are with the trapped workers and their families. The relentless efforts of the rescue teams exemplify courage and dedication in the face of adversity.

On March 12, 2025, Janyutech sent its Varaha SCE Rhino Heavy duty Robot-ROV to assist in the SLBC tunnel collapse rescue operation in Telangana. The incident, which trapped eight workers, has led to one of the most challenging rescue missions in India.
Challenges Faced
The rescue operation involves over 500 personnel and specialized equipment. However, challenges like water seepage, debris, and blocked pathways.

What the Varaha SCE Rhino is Capable of
✅ Water suction system – Helps in dewatering and clearing slush
✅ Heavy-duty cutter – Capable of cutting through debris and metal obstacles
✅ Front & rear cameras – Provides real-time visuals for precise operations
✅ Remote operation capabilities – Ensures safety while working in hazardous conditions
The Mission Continues

As the operation is still ongoing, we stand united in prayers for the safety of the trapped workers and the success of the rescue teams. 🙏
